A Day in Downtown Nashville!

The morning we got back from our getaway we told the kids that they got to take the day off school. Much excitement ensued. We packed a picnic lunch and scooters and bikes and stroller (good thing we've got a beast to haul all of our stuff in); and headed downtown. We walked over the river on the pedestrian bridge. Then walked around the Schermerhorn building. Ate our lunch at Riverfront Park and then let the kids ride on scooters etc. all around the Titans stadium. We had a lot of fun. Jeremy (my brother)came with us too. Don't tell him I put this picture of him on here!

Twelve Years Ago...

At the end of Sept. Danny and I were able to get away for a couple of nights to celebrate our anniversary. We had a great and relaxing time!
We stayed at the Opryland Hotel. We went to the Melting Pot for the first time. We really enjoyed that!We have always wanted to do one of the river boat cruises, but didn't want to pay the hefty prices for the Gen. Jackson... So we went on an afternoon cruise on the Music City Queen. It was very enjoyable!

We went last week to acquaint ourselves and rejoice over the arrival of Sydney. So precious and such a little miracle!

I'm out of control!

If I were in control our closing would have gone completely smoothly. If I were in control they would have told us that our Good Faith Estimate was over by about $5K and we would have gotten a hefty check. If I were in control we would have enjoyed showing the house to the kids last night and be having the carpets cleaned today. But, praise the Lord I am not in control. He has always proved to be our faithful and wonderful God. So we wait to see what he will accomplish thru this situation.
Here is a rundown....our closing went fairly smooth. We had to wait on the seller to wire his funds; but, it all looked good. Well, he did wire the money(he is out of the state)but,the bank had a communication problem and denied it. So, our title company had nothing in hand by 5pm yesterday. So nothing happened. Now we wait thru the weekend and it should all be a done deal on Mon. Only time will tell. So that is where we are at. We'll keep you posted. We are very thankful that we did not plan to move til next weekend.

I really don't like the term "tween", but, now that our oldest just got braces... we can feel those teen years right around the corner. Carver will be 11 this summer and he will have his braces on til he is about 13ish. Anyway, he is doing great with them. His attention to detail is definitely paying off in the way that he is suddenly very interested in his oral hygiene. I guess the fact that he can earn prizes from his ortho. doesn't hurt either! You may think that his teeth don't look too bad in the before pic. However his bite is totally off and his top teeth are gradually pushing his bottom teeth backwards. Now he has a buildup on his back molars to keep his teeth from hitting eachother til they straighten out a bit.
Anyway, I have a lot more to update. Be on the lookout.

An Update!

Ok! I know I am overdue to post some new stuff. I have several things to post that I will catch up on over this week. But, for now I just wanted to mention to whoever checks this that Danny is leaving this afternoon on a missions trip to Bangladesh. He will return on March 15th. There are several others from our church going. They fly to New York then Dubai then Dhaka. After that they travel to the town of Kushtia.
Please pray for their testimony. Also, they have had some pretty major things going on in their government as of late. You may have heard about this in the news. Obviously God is in control and we fully believe that He is sovereign. So we are not afraid; but ask that you would uphold us in prayer as we trust Him for whatever outcome He desires.
Thank you in advance. I will be posting more in the next few days.

We had a big delicious breakfast that consisted of pigs in a blanket, hashbrowns, eggs, and bacon, sweet breads, etc. It was very good! Jer (my brother made the hashbrowns).Our friend Eddie from church came over to eat with us and watch the kids open their gifts. Eddie gave the kids a Hotwheels racetrack which has provided many hours of enjoyment. We had a lot of fun!

We decided to cover the entrance to the sunroom with wrapping paper...so it looked like one big present! Also, we put a note on it so the kids would come and get us first. This was before they came into the sunroom and saw their presents. Our tradition is that the gifts from Daddy and Mommy are unwrapped and under the tree when they wake up. This year was great 'cause we really only bought Carver and Tegan's cars and Sadie's princess castle. (And, we got a good deal.) Cooper's horse and Murray's bulldozer were both things that people gave to us. Awesome!
Danny, let me through so the kids couldn't see inside...and, that way I could catch their reactions on video. Priceless!

The Day After the Snowfall! & Uncle Jer is moving to TN!

Here are some pics of what it looks like around the property here. I feel bad that I didn't get any pics of the kids playing in it during the day. They had a great time going in and out several times throughout the day. It is kind of rare to get enough snow to play in here; so I didn't stop them. Anyway, I'm still catching up on laundry.
Really glad right now that we don't live in the mid-west. Don't get me wrong... I love the snow, but, having it all winter long would get old; I'm sure! I remember living in Iowa for a year; we had a lot of snow.
On another note. For those who I haven't told yet...(which probably aren't many-I'm pretty excited) My younger brother Jeremy is packing up and leaving CA on Monday to move here. He was offered a job with the Brentwood Police Dept. His start date is Jan. 5th. We are so thrilled that he'll be here for Christmas and he will be living with us until he figures out where he wants to live. Yeah! For those of you who live here in the Nashville area, you will learn quickly why we enjoy and love him so much. He's a great guy! We also realize and are sensitive to the fact that he is leaving all the rest of the family in the San Diego area. The UJFC (Uncle Jeremy Fan Club- you know who you are) ...are all bummed for themselves.

This looks really small, 'cause I took it from standing on a chair. I wanted to get the train and everything in. I mean it isn't a big tree; but, a little bigger than it looks. All the kids helped to decorate it. We have accumulated so many ornaments over the years the we weren't even able to put them all on.
I always would go for white lights if it was my decision. But, this year we needed new lights and we let the kids decide. You van see what they picked.

Buying the Christmas Tree!

Can you tell that I was happy? You can't take yourself too seriously. And, I definitely don't. Just ask Danny.
Oh, the joyous occassion of purchasing a Christmas tree. I grew up with mostly artificial trees, and for the past 2 years we have used a fake one too. Someone had given it to us...and this year Danny said it was dumpster bound. Music to my ears! So, on Nov. 29th (while Sheila and her girls were out with some of their relatives visiting from Florida), we went to buy our tree. I will put up a picture after we finish decorating it. I know... crazy that it is not done yet! However we have been waiting for a time when we can relax and enjoy doing it.

(Danny indulges me in this photo op.) "Why do you want a picture of me tying the tree on?" Lowes gave us tons of string to tie the tree up. It made it interesting!

We had a low key birthday for Sadie this year because we had a special birthday surprise for her. The top pic is the dress her G&G Woods bought for her. The middle pic shows Sadie holding her Nutcracker ornament. This was her clue... She didn't get it; we had to tell her.

The bottom pic was Sadie's expression when we told her we were taking her to see the Nashville Ballet's performance of The Nutcracker. She laid out on the floor in awe before this pic was taken. Danny and I will take her on the 19th to see the matinee performance. We are excited too!

While our family was here, Murray was sick with a cold. Because of his congestion...every time we layed him down he would cry and cry. (I think he had some pressure in his ears.) Aunt Sheila rocked him one day and he napped in her arms for quite a while. I think she enjoyed it.:)

Carver's Spirit Week!

Carver is in a 4th-6th grade combination class at school. This week they are having Spirit Week. They dress up every day, have some fun games and prizes, and bring food in for a children's home in the area.

So far they have had Fast Food Day, Duct Tape Day, Fake Injury Day, and today was Jungle Day. Tomorrow will be spirit day. They are supposed to wear school colors. (Grey and maroon)

Anyway I have done a poor job of taking pictures but today I got one. This one was good.

A Friend comes for a Visit!

We had our friend Eddie Moore over on Tuesday evening for dinner. Here he is reading books to the kids. I made a new recipe that I got from Rachel Ray- Cobb Pasta Toss. It was pretty good! Even the kids liked it. I should have taken a picture! ): Anyway, the highlight of the night for the kids was the yummy ice cream that Mr. Eddie brought. Just thought I'd share the latest with Cooper. He is getting big so fast! He'll be 4 in March. Now that Carver, Tegan, and Sadie are in school, it's fun to get some more one on one with Coop. He takes after Carver and Sadie in the area of drawing. He draws a lot, and loves it!
We're amazed at all the different kinds of faces he draws.
He also loves playing outside and getting filthy!
He is also a sweet and tender-hearted little guy. He often says out of the blue, "I love you Mommy".(Of course he has a lot of "little stinker" moments too!)
We thank the Lord for all our children!

But, you'd think so, huh? It has been 2 whole months since I updated my blog. Pathetic! I guess I just got out of the habit of doing it weekly. You'd think now that Carver, Tegan, and Sadie have started school, I would have more time for this. However, life is still very full! Cooper is going to Mother's Day Out at our church on Wed. and Thurs. He finally loves it...that took a while. But, now he really enjoys going. Murray is 10 months old! I can't believe our little guy is almost a year old!

Anyway, here are some pics of the last couple of months.

I will try to do better at getting back in the routine. I didn't think anyone looked at our blog....until I talked to someone at church...thanks, Nita.

I just have to say that God is so good and I am so thankful for a God-fearing husband and 5 wonderful children. Every day I am reminded of what an overwhelming responsibility it is to be a godly wife and mother;and how much I fail at it. Praise the Lord that His mercies are new every morning and His grace is so amazing!

Our friend, Jacob Ronan, from Rockford, Illinois came through town this week. And, we were able to visit with him a bit on Sunday evening. We all go back to our good old Master's College days. He is a music pastor, and shared some of the songs he had written with us. Sadie and Cooper especially got into it.

It has been a busy week with my Dad and Mom, a friend from CA. (Karen Roseberry), and our nephew Riley. Lots of fun though.! This is why I have taken so long to post something new. On Monday, Danny planned a surprise for all the kids. A friend from our church, works for the Air National Guard. So, it was worked out for Danny to bring our group out there. (All 11 of us!) Poor Shelly- she didn't know what she had gotten into. We toured the facility where they work... flight planning room, pilot's room, navigator's room, load master's room were some of the places we saw. Then we all were able to try on night goggles before we headed out to see the C-130.

Today, I worked for a friend of ours at a festival selling BBQ. So, I was gone all day. Danny had to take Carver to the Doctor to get his face checked out. He has poison ivy. But, he's fine!

My Mom graciously offered to take care of Murray. Danny got home and took all of the kids to the dump. (how fun!) But, they did each get to buy a pack of gum on the way home. Then swimming ensued, then lunch, etc... In the afternoon when I got home the boys had a little wrestling time. Danny was trying to exhaust Riley, who has been an insomniac since he got here. I think it worked.

More company from California!

On Thursday evening our nephew Riley came from San Diego to visit and he is staying for five weeks. We definitely won't be lonely this summer. It is fun to have so many visitors!

We have had a good time together. We went to Chik-Fil-A on Friday. If you came dressed like a cow you got free food. The kids all ate and then played in the play area for awhile. Some little girls that were there asked Sadie to play "Go Fish" with them. How cute! She loved it!

On Tuesday night my parents arrived from San Diego for a six week stay! Yes, I said six weeks...and yes, we love having my folks here. Anyway, they've been enjoying their stay. My Dad has especially enjoyed the thunder storms we've had this week. My Mom has found delight in reading her Bible and drinking her coffee, while rocking on the front porch every morning. Here they are on the front porch of our house. Why my Dad picked up this old scythe-I have no idea... "Green acres is the place to be...."

The 4th of July and Ryan and Aimee's Wedding!

I did the unthinkable for a blogger and scrapbooker.... I didn't have my camera with me on the 4th of July. We didn't do much during the day.But, in the evening we went to Ryan and Aimee's wedding rehearsal- we sang in their wedding. And after that we went out the the Haskin's home for a wonderful dinner and fireworks. Our kids had a great time and it was a lot of fun! You'll just have to take my word for it.

On the 5th, Carver turned 10! hard to believe that our oldest is now in the double digits. We are having his party on the 14th. So, we will post more about that later. In the afternoon and evening we were at the wedding. Here are pictures. They had an awesome ballon artist for the kids. Great idea! I wish I had taken pics of some of the other creations, they were incredible.

When Daddy Came Home!

Of course the kids were all excited when Daddy got home from California. He brought them all little goodies from his trip. He also brought them a water balloon sling shot. So, on Tuesday we hung out all day, and part of the day consisted of filling ballons up with water and launching and throwing them in the yard. Danny went back to work on Wednesday.

Ok... I know I'm so bad about backtracking.... Danny went to CA. from June 25th to the 30th. His childhood friend Danny James got married and he and several others guys he grew up with were groomsmen. He had a great trip and also got to see many others from our families. The kids had a great time at Vacation Bible School this year. The theme of the week was Son World. The kids got to do a sort of simulated roller coaster everyday. This picture is from "crazy hat day". From L-R : Megan Kaperak, Carver, Sadie, Tegan, Cooper and Samuel Fast.

VBS ran from Mon-Fri. I worked in the nursery on Tues and Thurs. But, this is the 1st year in 5 years that I haven't done the music. It was nice to not have a big committment all week. It worked out well since Murray came down with a fever on Thurs. and battled it all weekend.

Danny took care of all the kids on Saturday so that I could work for Texas Joe's BBQ (our friends own this) at the RC Cola and Moonpie Festival. (Yes, we live in the South.)

More Father's Day Fun!

We spent a couple of hours at church in the afternoon helping to set up for Vacation Bible School.

Then came home and rested. In the evening we went to Crocket Park for a free concert. We took a picnic dinner and hung out with close friends- The Websters and The Smiths. It was a great time. The music was old time western hits.... not what we would pick... but, when you are there it's just different. It was very enjoyable! Carver, got Murray very excited with all his antics; which is evident from this picture.

Father's Day Morning!

So, it has been two weeks since I last posted anything.... Oh well, I shouldn't be surprised. Life has been busy.

Anyway, going back to Father's Day- Carver, Tegan, and Sadie all did artwork and then we printed them on transfers and made t-shirts for Danny. He loved them and has sported them often. I still need to do one from Cooper and Murray. We're working on that. so, we had a nice morning at home and then went to church. Neither Danny or I had anything we had to be at church early for. (Which doesn't happen very often.)

I am so thankful for you Danny! You are a devoted and caring husband, the wonderful Father of our five beautiful children, and the Lord is greatly using you and growing you in your ministry! I am amazed at all that the heavenly Father has done in our lives over the past 10+ years. What can I say?.... I love you and your still my favorite person to hang out with!

Summer Swimming Fun!

We went swimming last week at a friend's pool. Here are pics of Carver, Tegan and Sadie (with her little friend). (Sadie is on the left) Murray slept in the stroller most of the time. Cooper was at Mother's Day out at our church. I will post about him later.

We have been having very hot summer days- high 90's. So, we have been swimming in our pool a lot. Our kids have also been reading a lot for a summer reading program that our local library is doing. For every 10 books they read they get to pick a grab bag prize. There is a lot of motivation there. Carver and Tegan have both read 45 books. Sadie is working on 10. It is a little harder for her, b/c she isn't fully reading on her own yet. So, she has to rely on me and the boys to read to her.

Carver, Tegan and Sadie also got to go on a special outing with Daddy on Monday to the Adventure Science Center- here in Nashville. This was a reward for hours of outside work, including weeding. I was a bad Mom and didn't send Danny with a camera. But, the kids had a great time. http://www.adventuresciencecenter.com/

A Rare Happening

Last week we had some pretty severe storms one night.
I woke up in the morning and peeked in the kids rooms. Sadie had already come into our room in the middle of the night due to the storms, and Murray had a really tough night too. We were very surprised that the other 3 boys had not been up all night. (We had some majorly loud thunder!) This is what I found when I opened the boy's bedroom door. Awww!
Danny and I were quite certain that Tegan must have had a bad dream and climbed in bed with Carver. But, when Carver woke up he told us that he had a bad dream about a "computer monster" and woke Tegan up and asked him to sleep with him. You may ask why he would dream of a "computer monster". I have no idea....but, it must run in the family, b/c a couple of weeks ago Cooper awakened us at night saying that there was a "cereal-bar monster" in the woods. "I saw it out my window, Daddy!" Go figure!

The latest in the life of Murray

Murray will be 7 months old on June 2nd. In some ways it is hard to believe that! He is such a sweety and full of personality.He says "bububububu", laughs, and the latest is an open mouth growl; pretty funny! He is not crawling yet... but, he will sit with support. He's getting there.Here are some recent pics of him sleeping on the couch with his big brother, hanging out with Daddy, etc. Also, a little clip of him in the bathtub. Enjoy!

Memorial Day Weekend

Monday, we had planned to swim and spend the afternoon outside. It was very windy, and we got completely rained out . We still had some people over, but we stayed inside. So, our friends the Messers are moving back to CA. this week. We had their 2 older boys Sean and Ethan spend the night on Mon. Here are some pictures of the boys swimming on Tues. morning.

The Last Day of School

Carver and Tegan had a half day of school on Monday and since Danny now has Mondays off, we decided to celebrate.

The kids have had certificates for free kids meals for the Rainforest Cafe for quite a while. So, we surprised them and took them there for lunch. It was a lot of fun. We sat right in front of a large aquarium. This is one of the rare pics of the kids looking this way. Most of the time they were glued to the water and all the interesting surroundings.

We had a great time!

Saturday, May 3rd we went to a Rennasaince Festival down the road from us. Here are some pictures from that day. We went with our friends the Messers who are moving back to CA. next week. This is a short video clip of some musicians at the festival.

Yeah! I'm figuring this out as I go...I'm not the most computer savvy person, but this seems like the best way for friends and family to stay updated on what's going on with us.

This is actually a picture from last summer when we were on vacation in the Smoky Mountains. This was taken at Ripley's Aquarium. At the time I was 7 months pregnant with Murray.

Danny and I really like this picture. I guess it's about time we took some more family pics!
FYI- Carver is now 9 (he'll turn 10 in July), Tegan is 8, Sadie is 6, Cooper is 3 and little Murray will be 7 months on June 2nd.
